State Adopts National Arts Standards

SANTA FE, NM. -he state of New Mexico has recently adopted new arts education standards. The Government of New Mexico has recently changed the science and history state standard and now are looking at the art standards. This is their first time in about a decade that the public education system is making any changes to the arts curriculum guidelines. 43,000 people of New Mexico are apart of art related jobs. Secretary of Education Chris Ruszkowski said “A strong arts education is vital in preparing students for careers that exist in the state.” This change will allow students to explore their artistic abilities and teach them how to use the brains in a different way.The New Mexico State Government took on the task to make art education more important in public schools. There was lots of discussion about the adoption of the new standards. The educators then spoke their voice and decided to do something about it. The Government then took into consideration about the new standards and then raised the funding and created the new standards. Many school systems across the nation have cut back on there arts education standards saying that math and reading are more important. But from this article it shows that art is just as important as reading and math. Art is a way you can express yourself and suppressing this for of expression robes children of and education. When we see a positive effect from the change it might show other states how important the arts are.
