Where Does the GOP Stand on Roy Moore?

ALABAMA - The Alabama GOP has said they will stand behind Roy Moore even after the allegations of Roy Moore’s controversial actions prior to the campaign.

The GOP of Alabama have dismissed and brushed off many of Roy Moore’s actions amongst all of the controversy. Terry Lathan, chairwoman of the GOP of Alabama has released several statements on Roy Moore. Roy Moore who is accused of sexual assault will still appear on the ballot, however amongst all of the accusations Moore will still run for office and leave it up to the voters to determine if he gets elected or not. Terry Lathan has said, “Judge Moore has vehemently denied the allegations made against him, He deserves to be presumed innocent of the accusations unless proven otherwise.” These statements don't acknowledge, what he exactly Moore is accused of and dismisses the potential of any accusation being true.

Roys Moore’s potential unlawful conduct will only further divide the Republican Party. Those who don't support Roy Moore within the Republican Party will want to separate themselves from those who do. The entire situation will reflect the current state of the party, there is no clear unison amongst the entire GOP. Donald Trump who once supported Moore has become silent, and said the allegations should be taken very seriously. Instead, Donald Trump now states that the state of Alabama should be the deciding factor on whether or not Moore gets elected. If Moore were to get elected there is also potential that if it be determined Roy Moore is unfit for the role in the senate, he will be replaced.

Amongst the exposure of sexual misconduct in Hollywood and politics Roy Moore himself has responded to the Al Franken allegations. Moore said through a tweet that it was unfair the Mitch McConnell tell him to quit the race when Moore himself has completely rejected the allegations.

Noah Wahl, the chairman of the Republican Party in Limestone County said that if the GOP of Alabama had rejected Roy Moore the people would be disillusioned with the party. Wahl also said that the people would lose faith in the party if Alabama ran directly against Moore. And with new arguments arising declaring the accusations “fake news,” there may still be a chance Moore gets elected. Moore is also backed by several Christian activists. These Christian activists paraded for Moore, telling the people, and the public to look past the allegations. Seemingly Roy Moore has received backing from several religious outlets, saying Moore is a man of faith. But will this assurance of Moore’s character secure a vote amongst the believers? There is only one way to find out.

Recently with the controversy surrounding both the unison of the Republican Party, and the allegations surrounding Roy Moore there has only been an even clearer divide amongst the GOP. The White House has left Roy Moore’s fate partially up to Alabama itself, but even if he wins the campaign, it does not guarantee him a seat in the senate.
