WASHINGTON D.C. - North Korea isn't just a nuclear threat but a cyber threat as well. The head of Microsoft said that the one behind the WannaCry ransomware is Kim Jong-un.
The WannaCry ransomware is an internet worm that is affecting only Microsoft. The ransomware is looking for vulnerable systems and when it finds one it collect all your data and its transferred to the creator, while you're left with a red screen with a lock. It asks you to pay in order to collect back all your possession. Once your system is infected, there's no way of getting any of your stuff back unless you pay, but even if you pay you're not guaranteed. The only way to be protect from this worm, is to update the latest software for all your Microsoft software systems.
The president of Microsoft is certain that North Korea is behind this cyberattacks. There has been speculation that North Korea may have played a significant role in the WannaCry ransomware attack in May. Shortly after the hack, Neel Mehta, a prominent Google security researcher, revealed a resemblance between the code used in what is said to be an early version of WannaCry ransomware, and that in a hacker tool attributed to the notorious Lazarus Group in a Twitter post. While North Korea is trying to gain power we can highly assume that this cyber-attack is produced by North Korea brilliant minds.
Since Kim Jong-un has complete control of all North Korea, he can hand pick brilliant minds to create and deploy cyber attacks like WannaCry ransomware. He can get the brilliant people and transform them to cyber warriors. Also with North Korea small territory was underestimated by most in the United States of America. A country so small is now causing not only nuclear threats but also cyber threats most, if not all, of the world.
With Kim Jong-Un search for power, he is slowly obtaining it. Now being a nuclear threat and a cyber threat, North Korea is demonstrating that is not a pushover country. Being nicknamed “rocket man” by our president Donald J. Trump, has triggered North Korea rise to power a success.
