Tillerson Explains Trump’s Stance on Korean Diplomacy

WASHINGTON - Secretary of State Rex Tillerson implored Sunday that diplomacy with North Korea will continue until the first bomb is dropped. Despite bickerings within the government Tillerson undermines Trump’s statements saying he is instructed by the president to negotiate with North Korea.

On both the Korean and American sides there has been a constant barrage of threats involving potential bombings and attacks. Donald Trump and his tweets about North Korea and Rex Tillerson have illustrated an image that the public extends as threats directed to North Korea.

Donald Trump has continuously made comments about North Korea that seem to incite attacks but according to Tillerson he still wants the entire situation solved diplomatically. Tillerson stated that Donald Trump has instructed him to solve the situation with Pyongyang and the North Korean threats by non assault means. During Tillerson’s exposure of this information there were military tests performed by the United States which Pyongyang saw as a threat for a near invasion but are said to be only defensively minded.

Donald Trump publicly said that Rex Tillerson was wasting his time trying to communicate with North Korea and China. Tillerson has been trying to get china as a foreign aide in pushing for a diplomatic end to the battle of words to end the conflict before a bomb would be dropped. Even though Donald Trump has criticized his own Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson covers for him saying that Donald Trump didn't incite or motivate war but simply made statements. However according to the Republican Party in a public poll, about half of the republicans agreed that an invasion/pre-emptive attack on Pyongyang should happen.

This dealing of political rhetoric was tried to be silenced when Tillerson refused to say whether or not he called Trump a moron. Tillerson called these matters petty and it seems Tillerson just wants to move on to North Korean negotiation and communication with Pyongyang. Underplaying Trump’s statements, Tillerson has been focused on his instructions to increase diplomacy. American philosopher Noam Chomsky when asked about the North Korean conflict said that the current Trump administration was very unpredictable, and there is little say on whether or not the administration will attack North Korea, or solve the issue diplomatically. Chomsky stated that even if the United States does bomb North Korea it will simply put the United States and more specifically, Seoul, North Korea as the main target; this would also hurt many U.S. troops stationed in Korea. He also posed a perplexing question, Why won't the United States simply come to an agreement with North Korea. This agreement would end much of the paranoia and push to solve issues of potential threats but what is stopping an agreement?

With North Korea’s nuclear missile tests only increasing, the United States must take serious caution with how they present themselves to both Pyongyang and other allied nations. An attack on North Korea will bring other attacks as demonstrated by Noam Chomsky and his explanation of successive attacks in warfare. And Tillerson’s statements show until the very end, the United States will push to stay away from war.
